Markhams Superfund Site
Federal NPL Site
The Markhams Superfund Site is a federal National Priority List (NPL) Site located in the Town of Dayton, New York. In the early 1970s this 103-acre parcel of land was used for the disposal of various waste products from a former glue and adhesives manufacturing company.
Design-Build Remediation
Following completion of a Remedial Investigation and Feasibility Study (RI/FS), Benchmark was retained to implement the remedial measures on a design-build basis. The cleanup involved waste consolidation and installation of an engineered cover system, site restoration, and implementation of institutional controls to mitigate exposure to impacted soil/waste materials and groundwater. The work was performed on a lump-sum basis, and was completed on time and on budget. Based on the completeness of the remedial measures the site is being delisted from the NPL.
Operation, Maintenance & Monitoring (OM&M)
Benchmark’s operations arm, TurnKey Environmental Restoration, has assumed responsibility for providing long term OM&M at the Site on behalf of the PRPs. An escrow agreement was set up and is maintained by TurnKey to fund 30 years of post-remedial monitoring. We perform all post-remedial groundwater and surface water monitoring and reporting, routine site maintenance and repair, and annual certifications concerning the efficacy of the engineering and institutional controls.
